Obiettivi formativi
A first objective is to offer a relatively in-depth overview, while limiting formalisation to graphical analysis, of the main macroeconomic theories, and their microeconomic foundations, starting with the more traditional aspects and touching on more recent developments. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role and effectiveness of government intervention in the economy.
A second objective is to introduce the professional use of macroeconomic data to develop judgements and scenarios.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Prova scritta.
1) una calcolatrice NON PROGRAMMATA (cioè che esegua semplici calcoli matematici e non abbia formule pre-impostate);
2) una penna per eseguire i calcoli.
Written exam.
The format allows to assess the achievement of the desired goals.
In particular, the test consists of questions with multiple-choice answers; part of the questions, or even all of them, may require the solution of exercises, graphical and analytical analysis, combined with economic intuition.
Each incorrect answer will result, in addition to the loss of the score for the question, in a penalty of -0.5 points; no penalties are assigned for missing answers
Registration via the ESSE3 system is required.
For the exam you will also need:
1) a NON-PROGRAMMED calculator (i.e. one that performs simple mathematical calculations and does not have pre-set formulas);
2) a pen to perform any calculations.

INFLAZIONE:

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS CRISES:
Book "International Economics: Theory and Policy" by Krugman and Obstfeld, sixth edition (a more recent one is also fine but the chapters will not match), Chapter 17 (Fixed Exchange Rates and Foreign Exchange Intervention) + Appendix III to Chapter 17 (The Timing of Balance of Payments Crises)
INFLATION:
Book "Macroeconomics" by Blanchard and Johnson, 6th edition (a newer one is also fine but chapters will not match), mainly Chapter 23 and 24 (Fiscal Policy: A Summing Up and Monetary Policy: A Summing Up) and earlier chapters if some basics of macro are missing
DIVERSIFICATION OF AN INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO:
Book "International Economics: Theory and Policy" by Krugman and Obstfeld, sixth edition (a more recent one is also fine but chapters will not match), Postscript to Chapter 21 (Risk Aversion and International Portfolio Diversification)IMPORTANT NOTE: The exam will be based ONLY on the content presented in class, the material listed does not have to be studied in its entirety, these are reference texts that are only an indication and not a perfect substitute to attending lectures.
